Gender Neutral, Unisex Baby Clothes Are Hard to Find
Gender stereotyping starts even before a child is born. As friends and family buy gifts for an upcoming birth, color choices are often limited to pale green or yellow if the baby's gender is to be a surprise. If the baby's sex is known, or after the child is born, pale pinks and small flowers adorn newborn girls' clothing, while light blue with trucks and sports insignia adorn newborn boys' clothes.
An attempt to find gender neutral clothing, unisex, or bright colored clothes for babies and toddlers can result in frustration. The clothing exists and boutiques do carry them, but the selections are often limited. Children's clothing should represent the spirit of childhood: fun and exciting, colorful and unique. Children's clothing should not begin to stereotype children prior to their ability to determine their own likes and dislikes. This does not mean dressing boys in pink lace and girls in black, it means providing a range of colors and options.
There are some wonderful children's boutique clothing with colorful, unisex designs. It can take some time and perseverance to find these clothes, but there are sources available for busy parents and shoppers.
Finding high quality, gender neutral and unique baby clothes can be a challenge, but hopefully not as difficult as it once was!
Breaking with the current trends, while still being fashionable, Polkadot Patch Boutique opened in April 2006. Online at polkadotpatch.com, parents looking for unique, whimsical and bright colors, as well as fun gender neutral clothing will find a growing selection at one, convenient location. While you will still find pink and blue, black and brown, unless it is bright, whimsical or unique, Polkadot Patch Boutique will not carry it.
For fun bright colored baby clothes see the Cow & Lizard line featuring turtles, fish, and caterpillars. For something a little more funky, take a look at the "Zoot" the Bee or "Algernon" the Fox on the long sleeve shirts, with matching striped pants and hats from Tiny Tyrants.

Diaper Changing Tips and Avoiding the "Magic Pee"
This article is designed to help those who've never changed a disposable diaper before, or think they're doing something wrong.
Step 1. Gather all necessary items before starting. You'll need: clean diaper, baby wipes, baby powder, cream for rashes, and a disposable bag.
Step 2. Wash your hands.
Step 3. Cover changing area with cloth or waterproof blanket.
Step 4. Place baby on changing table and secure him, or on designated area. Do not place on counter he can roll off of.
Step 5. Fully remove child's pants or anything that may get in the way of diaper changing process.
Step 6. Unfold clean diaper, sliding tabbed portion underneath the child. The front of the diaper, generally with little pictures on the top, should be face down.
Step 7. Open tabs on dirty diaper and fold down. Do not remove yet. If child is a boy, cover penis with baby wipe or cloth to avoid spraying.
Step 8. Hold baby's legs up with one hand. Wipe the baby's bottom clean. If it's a girl, make sure you always wipe front to back. If it's a boy, be sure to clean all around the scrotum. Put used wipes in the dirty diaper, use as many as you need until wipe comes away clean.
Step 9. Pull soiled diaper out, fold and secure tabs. Put it in the disposable bag.
Step 10. Apply powder to bottom. If there is a rash, let it air dry or pat dry with a cloth before applying cream. Do not put powder on rash.
Step 11. Fold front of clean diaper up and secure tabs. Diaper should be snug without pinching. Make sure side ruffles are out, not in, to prevent leakage down the legs. If this is a newborn baby with umbilical cord, fold the diaper down to just below cord.
Congratulations! You have changed a diaper.
One last helpful tip. Have you experienced the "magic pee" with your baby boy, where the diaper is dry, but his clothes are wet?
Here's the thing you need to watch for: Make sure the boy's penis is pointing down when putting on diaper. This is something I wish I knew when I first started changing diapers. If he is pointing up or to the side, his pee will shoot right out of the diaper. Remembering this will prevent many clothes and bedding changes.
Good luck with the new addition to your family.

Winter Toddler Dresses
In winter, it is very important to keep toddlers warm. If your kid does not wear enough warm clothes, he or she will easily catch a cold in snowy days. As toddlers have the same body temperature as adults, you should not dress up little kids with too many clothes either. Many toddlers can't talk, so parents need to pay more attention to change kids' clothing along with climatic change.
Little babies need soft and warm underwear. Cotton and wool are soft and warm, so you can choose underwear made from these materials. If it is an extremely cold day, you can dress your baby with two layers of underwear. The head and feet are easy to get cold, so you also need to add a warm top and bottom. Moreover, you'd better choose thick socks. If there are no thick socks, you can use several pairs of thin socks for instead. You also need to prepare two pairs of gloves for your toddlers, a pair of thin gloves and a pair of waterproof, thick snow gloves. Put on the thin gloves at first, and then put the thick one on your kid's hands. And then you can put a snow jacket on the child. When you are going to step out with your kid, you can put snow boots on the child. Do remember to pull up the kid's snow pants, and then your kid can walk easily. At last, you have to put a thick hat on your toddler's head. You can either choose a knit hat or a fleece hat.
If you are going to attend a winter party, you can choose chic and pretty toddler dresses or suits for your toddler. As winter parties are always held indoor, you don' need to worry about the cold temperature. Both you and your kid can have more clothing options. Maybe winter is not a comfortable season, but we can feel warm in its extremely cold weather. When the winter is over, we will greet the arrival of spring. It is very pleasing, isn't it?
Little girls always have serveral Pageant Dresses and Toddler Dresses.

Great Toilet Training Tips For Toddlers
Are you and your toddler just about ready to say goodbye to dirty nappies for good? If you are, then it's time to get clued up on the subject of toilet training. Toilet training (also known as potty training) can be a difficult and challenging time for both you and your little toddler but with good advice and guidelines it's easy peasy. It can also be a fun and memorable time, as your child is likely to say things about bodily functions that will make you laugh.
Toilet training tips
Even the most understanding parent with the most co-operative child can sometimes hit a snag. For these occasions, we have compiled a list of top toilet training tips to get you back on track. Getting your child to stay dry at night can be a tough task to accomplish. Here are some of our awesome toilet training tips:.
• Try not to leave your little one's feet dangling while they sit on the loo as this can sometimes hinder bowel movements. Put a little box or stool down so that your toddler can rest their feet and make using the loo as easy as possible.
• Try to get your kids to understand that it's way more comfortable to be dry instead of wet; this will add some extra motivation.
• Try to gradually phase out nappies as some children hate change and this may cause them to regress in their toilet training progress.
• Try to give your toddler as much privacy when using the toilet as possible as some kids won't use the loo if someone is watching.
• Make the bathroom environment as welcoming as possible by putting in some of your little one's favourite toys and maybe even a book or too next to the loo.
• Try making up a li'l tune aka "Look Who's Talking" and sing it every time your child goes to the toilet successfully. Include generous praise and compliments in the song so that your tot knows they are doing something good.
• Put some food dye into the toilet so your child can enjoy watching it change colour after using the loo. This tip is a huge hit with tots!
• Give surprise treats, lollies and gifts to your toddler after using the bathroom. This positive reinforcement will encourage the use of the toilet.
• Create a bit of buzz around flushing the lavatory and make this your child's special job. In order for this to work, you should try to make your child understand that they can only flush the loo once they have used it.
• Training pants, like Huggies Pull-Ups, can make toilet training quicker and easier.
The most important things to remember with toilet training are to wait until your child or toddler and family are ready and to make it a positive experience. Be patient, and look forward to the days of freedom from nappies and little accidents.

Halloween Costume Ideas for Toddlers
Dressing up your toddler for Halloween is a lot of fun. Enjoy it while you
can. Before you know it your sweet little toddler will be in kindergarten or
first grade and will have developed a much stronger opinion on his or her
costume choices and you'll no longer be able to dress him in the costume of
your choice. Here are a few ideas for toddler Halloween costumes to get you
started. Of course there are plenty of other options out there as well. With
a little creativity, the possibilities are endless.
Pumpkin
Start with a large orange sweatshirt. Cut eyes and a mouth shape out of
black or yellow felt and glue them on the front of the shirt. Put the shirt
on your child, fold up the sleeves, then stuff the belly and back area with
newspapers or quilt batting to make it look nice and round like a pumpkin.
Top it all of with a green cap. You can even cut some leaf shapes out of
green felt and glue them to the top of the cap.
Dwarf
Start with earth tone pants and shirt. Brown and dark greens work well. Put
your child in some boots as well. Make a simple hat out of felt, similar to
a witch's hat but with a smaller brim. Finish the outfit with some gardening
tools. Your little dwarf right out of "Snow White" is ready to go trick or
treating.
Sunflower
Dress your child in a green shirt and pants. For smaller children,
especially those in colder climates, a one piece pajama-type outfit with
feet works well. For the flower part, start with a brown hat or cap. Cut
flower petal shapes out of yellow felt and glue them all around the hat. If
you'd like you can cut two large leaf shapes out of green felt and glue them
at the back of each of the shirt's sleeves. A little plastic watering can
makes a cute pail to carry candy in.

Home Remedy for Diaper Rash
It is time to change your little one's diaper and ... wow! You see a red bottom in front of you. Obviously your child has a diaper rash.
Do not panic, diaper rash is a common thing for babies and every one has had it at least once. It can be caused by everything - from improper cosmetics to bad skin balance. Of the many remedies available today, I prefer the home remedies.
The good news is that there are many ways to fight it before running to the doctor. Here are some of the most effective diaper rash cures.
The first home cure for diaper rash is warm water and air. In most of the cases diaper rash appears because your baby's skin has been damp and not aerated for a long time. The usual scenario is that you use plastic or rubber diaper pants and when your baby damps them the moisture has no way out. Clean your baby with warm water only and leave it with no diapers as long as you can. Some mothers even leave their children like this for the whole day and put on diapers only during the night.
Some diaper rashes are caused by the cosmetics you use to clean you bay. Try to use only trusted cosmetics and make sure they are alcohol and perfume free. The same rule applies to the laundry detergents you use to wash your baby clothes. Obviously you should wash the baby's clothes separately using only suitable detergents.
A great home cure for diaper rash is the Cornstarch. You can mix it with the crème you are applying to your baby's bottom or use it in place of the powder. Another home cure is the vinegar. Clean your baby's bottom using a cotton ball dipped in vinegar; add some to the water used to rinse its bottom.
There are many more natural ways to keep your child healthy and happy. No matter how you are fighting a diaper rash you should be alert during all the time and know when to seek medical attention. Some rashes are easily cured with simple things such as better hygiene routine. However some rashes can be very consistent and turn into a real problem. If the rash is not disappearing in several days go to see a doctor. He will be able to determine what caused it and if you need to get some medicines to cure it.

Six Things You Should Know About Your Three Year Old
Watching a child grow from a tiny newborn into a curious toddler is an amazing experience, and teaching toddlers the many skills they need to learn is a rewarding job. By the time a child becomes a toddler they are ready to explore the world around them and are beginning to grasp basic verbal, physical, and social skills. Three year olds have very different needs than younger toddlers and strengthen the skills that they have learned since birth.
There are some common traits that most three year olds share although every child is different and develops at their own pace. If your child is soon to be three, here are six things you should know about your three year old.
Many children, especially boys, aren't ready for potty training until they're three. Many parents expect their children to be potty trained by three years old but many children aren't ready to begin the process until age three, and this is perfectly normal.
Three year olds are learning new words every day and are usually talking in 3-5 word sentences. Because they are learning so many new words it is normal to stumble over words but this is not stuttering and usually does not indicate a problem.
Some parents of toddlers are inclined to talk down to their child using overly simplified words or "baby talk." However, the best way to help your three year old develop proper speech is to talk with them using regular language with plenty of descriptive words.
Most three year olds enjoy imitating people and animals, especially those they are around on a daily basis. Three year olds will mimic what they see during play and will begin to emulate people that are close to them.
By age three children begin to develop the social skills necessary to play cooperatively with other children. Three year olds begin to share, take turns, and can tolerate delayed gratification, most of the time.
Three year olds also start to develop vivid imaginations and will often engage in imaginative play. They enjoy making up stories, pretending, and acting out their favorite books, stories, and TV shows.
Three year olds are still developing many important skills as they learn about the world around them. Teaching toddlers skills such as using the potty, how to play cooperatively, and the correct use of language become easier for three year olds who have developed the attention span and understanding needed for these tasks.

Cantilever Umbrella For Our Toddlers Sandbox
My husband recently built a large sandbox to the right of our yard for our very busy toddler. He seemed quite overwhelmed by the size of it but later enjoyed rolling in the sand along with our puppy.
My biggest concern was the hot sun on his young tender skin, so we decided to get a large outdoor umbrella that we could place in the sand box that would provide all the shade he needed. We had looked at all our outdoor umbrella options and decided that the offset umbrella also called a cantilever umbrella would be the best selection.
A blue cantilever umbrella made with Sunbrella fabric now sits in the sandbox and gives a special touch to our backyard. With all the fears surrounding sun exposure having a cantilever umbrella was the clear choice. You can tilt this umbrella in any direction to help shade you from the moving sun and still enjoy the outdoors in the strongest heat of the day.
Sunbrella fabric is an added plus, made of solution dyed acrylic fibers that are fade resistant in the sun along with UV ray protection, Sunbrella stands out above the rest.
Our toddler is happy to have his own mini island with all the amenities of a classic beach resort; cantilever umbrella, Adirondack chairs and a mound of sand to do build as many sand castles possible. Now all his sandbox needs is to be surrounded by a body of water and this island would be complete.
